What conservative pro-life Catholics need to know about

Profile update from Discover The Networks.  Excerpts:

A project of Catholic Democrats, Catholics For Obama (CFO) was formed to promote the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama in 2008.

Though Obama has been an unwavering backer of abortion rights throughout his years in politics—he opposed even the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act as a state senator—CFO says that by the standards of “Catholic Social Teaching,” Obama is technically “pro-life” because he “has spent his entire career striving for the common good.” Specifically, CFO praises the President for supporting “health care programs that will cover all Americans, a living wage for working families, and solutions that allow distressed families to stay in their homes.” Moreover, CFO reasons that Obama’s presidency will ultimately reduce the number of abortions “by promoting health care for pregnant women and better infant care, day care and job training.”

This is the ideology of CATHOLICS FOR OBAMA who have posted the following on their website:

Is Barack Obama Really Pro-Life?

The answer is “yes.” Looking through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching, Senator Obama has spent his entire career striving for the common good.  He supports health care programs that will cover all Americans, a living wage for working families, and solutions that allow distressed families to stay in their homes. And rather than trying to overturn Roe v. Wade, an ineffective strategy for 40 years, Senator Obama will reduce abortions. How?  By promoting health care for pregnant women and better infant care, day care and job training.  In fact, data has shown that social and education programs actually reduce abortions.

We at Pro-Life Action of Oregon wonder:  Is Matt Cato a Catholic For Obama?  (Cato is the Director of the Portland Archdiocesan Life, Peace, and Justice Office; he manages CCHD grants.)

In last week’s Sentinel article, Cato was paraphrased as follows:

“In addition to the many Catholic programs . . . the church has an obligation to advocate for government aid.

“If society can remove financial pressures, that will end the reason cited for 7 in 10 abortions.”

This is Obama’s “abortion reduction distortion” in Obamacare.

Poll – Child Molesting Priests: Do Catholics “Know” God Forgives Them?

As people of faith, we know deep in our hearts that God’s forgiveness is extended to the most despicable criminals.“— Archbishop John Vlazny, Catholic Sentinel, September 5, 2012

The archbishop is a well-known opponent of the death penalty which provides a clue to his reluctance to openly condemn Father Perez, the alleged child abuser.  Rather, the archbishop would like us to consider forgiving Father Perez, before the details of his wickedness and sinfulness are known!

“As your archbishop, I feel angry, frustrated and helpless. But such sentiments serve no useful purpose.”

His Reverence Archbishop John Vlazny of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon has composed an excellent and heartfelt column in the September 5, 2012 issue of the Catholic Sentinel, the newspaper of record for the archdiocese.  Catholics righteously angered about the molestation of a little boy by Father Angel Perez, a graduate of Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon, ought to read the archbishop’s column.  Vlazny has eloquently demonstrated his humanity:  frustration, anger, and horror.  His Excellency expressed his deepest sympathy for the young victim, a boy of 12.

Vlazny is rightfully disappointed in the “safe environment” programs.  Perhaps his excellency has lost confidence in these programs.  And so he should!  Instead, he ought to focus his energy towards MT. ANGEL SEMINARY formation programs!

Half-dressed Seminarians Dance at Mt. Angel

This post is an addition to my post titled “Problems of a Modernized Seminary.”

By Nina Rhea

2004 Samoan seminarians dance at Mt. Angel Seminary benefit.  Permission granted by Catholic Sentinel.

Before you label me a racist narrow-minded prude, let me tell you a few things about my personal involvement with folk dance.

  1. Both my grandparents were born in Hawaii of Portuguese descent.
  2. My grandmother taught me the hula in California, my birthplace.
  3. In my youth I was a Balkan folk dance performer.
  4. My uncle and his four sons performed conga music.
  5. I played percussion in a Brazilian samba drum corps.  I left because of the barely-clothed vulgar dancing and the voodoo influence of some of the drumming known as Condomble.
  6. My husband is a former jazz drummer.

So, as much as I loved the exhilaration of samba, I knew I was not pleasing God.

Seminaries are no place for this dance.  In this age of moral anarchy, it’s time to return to modesty!

Do Samoan girls perform native dance in their convents?  Probably not!

Catholics who tolerate this seem embarrassed by the traditions of our Church!  They want to remake Holy Mother Church in the image of pagans.  Next up:  human sacrifice.  Oh, right, I forgot.  There’s “Catholics for Choice” already.

Another Mt. Angel Abbey Priest Scandal!

Oregonian August 23, 2012

READ THE STORY HERE.   Courageous survivor of priest sex abuse and abuse of power tells her story.

FATHER EDWARD ALSTOCK went to Mt. Angel Abbey seminary.  His abuse of this girl was in the 1980’s.

Message to liberal Catholics:  No, the priest sex abuse issue is NOT OVER.

  1. stop all donations to Mt. Angel Abbey seminary;
  2. all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon should stop attending Mass until Solutions I thru V are accomplished.

In seminaries around the …

In seminaries around the country, including Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon, seminarians attend sex education classes where the church’s traditional teachings of celibacy and marriage are mocked, and textbook photographs depicting every conceivable human sexual activity, including bestiality, are required study. Rose quotes one priest who said that “A lot of seminarians were just struck dumb by this book”….”They didn’t know what to say. You
expect to see this stuff out in the world, but in the seminary it’s shocking.”

Mt. Angel Abbey is once again the focus of Catholics in Oregon and beyond who are scandalized over yet another alleged child molestation by a priest.  Woodburn priest Fr. Angel Armando Perez is in prison without bail.  He attended the seminary prior to the so-called strict screening process.

I suspect tighter screening will be helpful to protect innocent children.  But there is more that can be done.

My solutions will not be hard to grasp for many traditional Catholics.

SOLUTION I:  Return the Tabernacle to its Rightful Place, on the altar and in the center of the altar!

A recent visit to the abbey’s church shocked my husband and I:  the Tabernacle is set off to the side, to the right of the altar.  Our Blessed Lord is not the center of your life there.  He is demoted!  We could not quickly locate the red chapel lantern which should be visible immediately upon entering a Catholic church.  If you move it for Mass please explain in a comment here.

SOLUTION II:  Say the Latin Mass Every Day

It is more reverent and holy than the Novus Ordo, designed to please protestants.  The Latin Mass will give us more holy priests, priests who will love God more than themselves.

The New Mass is weak.  Do you not know the fruits of the New Mass?  Priestly sex abuse, bishops reassigning degenerate priests from parish to parish,  acceptance of contraception, childless couples, one-child families, abortion, sexual promiscuity, pornography, legal patient euthanasia and suicides.

SOLUTION III:  Disband the radical New Age sisters at the Shalom Prayer Center.  They are harming the Body of Christ!

SOLUTION IV:  Bring back the traditional Catholic hatred of the world, the flesh, and the devil.

After browsing the modernized Abbey Journalism blog, I conclude that your seminary needs an orthodox overhaul.  You are too much “of the world.”  For example, Sister Hilda Kleinman, the blogger, has news links to Islamist propagandist Al Jazeera and the anti-Catholic New York Times!

SOLUTION V:  Cease all multicultural focus programs and dance performances.

2010 Samoan dancer seminarians, Mt. Angel Abbey

I cannot get the picture out of my mind of partially-clad Samoan seminarians dancing with loin cloths on for a (2005?) fund raiser at the seminary.  They looked oiled up and sexy; the above pic is better but still not a holy representation for priest candidates.  (I deleted it from my computer it made me so sick.)

“Cultural diversity also enriches the community experience, as the Latin American, Vietnamese, Samoan and the Filipino sub-communities plan their own activities and sponsor events for the Seminary at large.”

Source – Mt. Angel Abbey

Multiculturalism does not belong in a Catholic seminary.  It’s actually a redundant concept.   The word catholic translates to mean the universal church.  In fact, multiculturalism is a means to divide us all.  Don’t misunderstand my point.  I’m in favor of celebrating cultures in food, dance, music, costumes, and language.  However, as faithful Catholics, the line must be drawn in favor of placing Jesus at the center of forming holy and faithful priests in seminary life.

Catholic Dissenters Agitate for Women’s Ordination in Portland

mocking mass

Catholic feminist protest included ‘sacred dancing.’

NINA RHEA, Pro-Life Action of Oregon

Portland, Ore. Sep. 30, 2010

In an unsettling show of disobedience on a holy day, Portland area Catholic protesters mocked the Mass in the Park Blocks on Sunday, September 26.

Supporters report 600 people attended representing 47 parishes.  Source.

The next large meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21 at St. Charles Catholic Church in the gym.

News coverage of this event presumes these dissenters are spokespersons for the rest of Catholic laity!  The coverage has not given anyone from the orthodox laity a voice.

The Oregonian interviewed Archbishop John Vlazny two days prior to the protest.  “Archbishop John G. Vlazny . . . doesn’t see the Catholic Church changing its position on women’s ordination.”

“Catholic Women in Portland Will Answer The Call.” The Oregonian Sep. 25, 2010. Includes Archbishop Vlazny’s response.  (The title of the online article is “We’ve Had Enough.”)

. . . ordination [of women] is at the bottom of [the protest].” – – -Archbishop John Vlazny.

‘Gathering calls for women’s equality in the Church.’ Catholic Sentinel Sep. 28, 2010.  Includes Archbishop Vlazny’s response.

‘Mass Defection:  why local Catholics are skipping morning services this morning.’ Willamette Week Sep. 22, 2010. Includes comment by Archdiocese spokesman Bud Bunce who says,  “it’s unlikely the priests backing the demonstration will face discipline.” Marylee King, a 64-year-old parishioner at Resurrection Parish in Tualatin, counters that it’s important for her to get together with hundreds of sister Catholics unhappy about church leadership.  ‘I’m fed up with inequality and injustice by the church hierarchy,’ King says.'”

Update 12/13/10 — The Catholic Sentinel has published this photo to accompany a letter.

Organized by local group One Spirit – One Call.  Many photos and news coverage posted at their site .   The Sentinel did not publish a photo of the dancing at least not online.  Probably because its divisive, insulting and embarrassing!

Their YouTube Video begins with New Age goddess dancing and singing.  In the video, a group identifies themselves from St. Clare’s;  St. Andrew’s is the other church who put this on.

These dissenting organizations and extreme fringe groups base their relevance on the sexual abuse scandal, i.e., they are agitating for women priestesses to solve the problem of homosexual predators! We totally disagree.  They are using the scandal as an excuse to unleash their Ungodly Rage against Church teaching.

The umbrella organization of Catholic dissent groups is Catholic Organizations for Renewal.  The list includes Catholics for Choice (radically pro-abortion) and Call To Action.

We look forward to the day when these feminist agitators, who are in a perpetual state of “revolution” attacking the Church, will find another institution to attack.

It is our view that the Vatican needs to ban dissenting publications like the ‘National Catholic Reporter’ and America which foment calls for women’s ordination.  NCR is known to be a mouthpiece for Call To Action.  I’ve known of an entire parish (St. Clare’s) that reads the paper exclusively.

These dissenters need to be encouraged to leave the Catholic Church and join the Episcopalians where they’d feel more comfortable.  They are causing further scandal to every good Catholic.

This is a revision of my 9/30/10 report at Fidelity and Action.

Local CCHD Pulls Money from ‘Street Roots’ Paper

Pro-Life Action of Oregon is gratified that people of conscience will no longer be donating to the homeless newspaper, Street Roots.  The paper publishes a guidebook of community resourcesPlanned Parenthood is one of those resources, under ‘health care.’

Faced with losing $5,000, the paper opted to keep its Planned Parenthood listing, which includes street maps to its locations.  Now that is dedication to the Culture of Death if we ever saw it!

Street Roots’ action, therefore, is immoral!  They prefer to be “politically correct,”  siding with the Abortion Lobby rather than with Catholic social teachings which compel Catholics to feed and clothe the poor!  This is where the Left is abandoning the poor!

Pro-Life Action of Oregon reported on this controversy in December 2009, ‘Local CCHD Grantee Refers Homeless to Planned Parenthood.’

We thank Matt Cato, director of the Respect Life Office, for working on this.

Pro-lifers in Oregon will continue to work to turn the tide in favor of the Culture of Life and against those who support the largest abortion chain in the country.

We look forward to the day when Street Roots removes their promotion of Planned Parenthood from their guidebook.  It’s the simplest solution.  If they want Catholics in Oregon to donate they must disengage from the Culture of Death.

The Talk of the Town on the Internet

A free Portland rag, ‘The Portland Mercury,’ also posted a story.  However, proceed with caution:  it’s vile.  Just know that we investigated them and so has Life Decisions Intl.:  the editor is on record as publishing “we love abortion”  in support of PP.
