Planned Parenthood Insider Now Works for Assisted Suicide Group |

When Compassion & Choices, formerly The Hemlock Society, convened its June 2012 conference, former Planned Parenthood insider Theresa Connor, now director of government affairs with the assisted suicide group, was a featured speaker. She was public policy director for PP in Washington state for 15 years and instituted the research and strategy behind the 2001 Erickson v. Bartell case “that required employers’ insurance plans to cover prescription birth control under anti-discrimination laws.

Connor joined Compassion & Choices’ president, Barbara Coombs Lee, author of Oregon’s “Death with Dignity” Act, were co-speakers at the conference on “the strategies for success in affirming and protecting end-of-life liberty, including aid in dying in the states.”

“Learn how you, as an end-of-life advocate,” the program says, “can work with reproductive justice and LGBT allies to defeat refusal legislation at the state and federal levels.” The topic of the presentation was “Legislating Medicine and Morality.”

How The Evil View Human Life: The Third Man

In Graham Greene’s The Third Man, Harry Lime justifies violence and murdering innocent human beings.

The Third Man. 1949.

Scene: Harry Lime is hiding from police. He is the leader of a black market gang that robbed penicillin from the military hospital to adulterate (weaken) it and resell it. This caused the death and anomalies of many children. His friend Holly Martins catches up with him. They ride a Ferris wheel and talk.

Martins:  Have you ever seen any of your victims?

Harry Lime: Victims? Don’t be melodramatic. Look down there. Tell me. Would you really feel any pity if one of those dots stopped moving forever? If I offered you twenty thousand pounds for every dot that stopped, would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money, or would you calculate how many dots you could afford to spare? Free of income tax, old man. Free of income tax – the only way you can save money nowadays.

Nobody thinks in terms of human beings. Governments don’t. Why should we? They talk about the people and the proletariat, I talk about the suckers and the mugs – it’s the same thing. They have their five-year plans, so have I.

Martins: You used to believe in God.

Harry Lime: Oh, I still do believe in God, old man. I believe in God and mercy and all that. But the dead are happier dead. They don’t miss much here, poor devils.

Dutch Euthanasia Expert: “We Were Terribly Wrong”

From Patients Rights Council . . .

Dutch euthanasia expert:  “We were wrong—terribly wrong, in fact.”

A Dutch expert on euthanasia has not only stopped supporting the death practice and the euthanasia law for which he campaigned, but he has made the reasons for his about-face public—something usually frowned upon in Dutch circles.

Professor Theo Boer held a unique position for seeing how the country’s euthanasia/assisted-suicide law, enacted in 2002, actually worked. For nine years, Boer, a medical ethicist, was a member of one of five Dutch regional review committees charged with investigating all reported euthanasia and assisted-suicide deaths for the government to see if each case complied with the law.

In an article Boer submitted to London’s Daily Mail—in the hope of persuading Britain’s House of Lords not to pass an assisted-suicide law (see p. 6)—Boer said he and his colleagues were “terribly wrong” when they concluded five years after the Dutch euthanasia law took effect that there was no “slippery slope” associated with that law.  Mr. Boer concerns include:

  • Beginning in 2008, the numbers of these deaths show an increase of 15% annually, year after year.
  • The annual report of the committees for 2012 recorded 4,188 cases (compared with 1,882 in 2002)
  • Euthanasia is on the way to become a ‘default’ mode of dying for cancer patients.
  • The extension of killing to new classes of people, including the demented and the depressed, and the establishment of mobile death units of ‘traveling euthanizing doctors’.
  • Under the name ‘End of Life Clinic,’ the Dutch Right to Die Society NVVE founded a network of traveling euthanizing doctors. Whereas the law presupposes (but does not require) an established doctor-patient relationship, in which death might be the end of a period of treatment and interaction, doctors of the End of Life Clinic have only two options: administer life-ending drugs or send the patient away. On average, these physicians see a patient three times before administering drugs to end their life.

Hundreds of cases were conducted by the End of Life Clinic. The NVVE shows no signs of being satisfied even with these developments. They will not rest until a lethal pill is made available to anyone over 70 years who wishes to die. Some slopes truly are slippery.

Living Life To The Fullest Symposium: Support the Sick and Elderly – Heritage Video

Living Life to Its Fullest: Supporting the Sick and Elderly in their Most Vulnerable Hours

Co-hosted by

In recent months, heartbreaking stories of Americans struggling with devastating diagnoses have captured our empathy. In response, activists are using these stories to advance legislation that has otherwise been rejected by the people. At least 13 states across the country are considering legislation that would legalize physician-assisted suicide. But legalizing physician-assisted suicide would be a grave mistake. The merciful thing would be to expect doctors to do no harm and ease the pain of those who suffer and support families and ministries in providing that care.

Join us as an expert panel explores the medical, policy, and frontline aspects of this debate that leaves no family unaffected.

EXPOSED! Compassion & Choices Use Deceptive Practices

Compassion and Choices Used Brittany Maynard’s Death to Secretly Collect Signatures for an Assisted Suicide Petition.

C&C Petition Without Choices

WATCH THE VIDEO of a little known investigation, A Petition Without Choices.

Throughout the month of October 2014, many people followed the story of Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old brain cancer patient who planned to take her own life. Compassion and Choices, a pro-assisted suicide group, created an online sympathy card for Brittany for their own gain.
What people did not know who signed it? Their names would be placed on a petition to legalize assisted suicide in all 50 states.
Katie Buck, a friend of Human Life Alliance who signed the card, did some undercover work to expose the organization’s deceptive activity.

FRANK PAVONE: Terri Schiavo’s inconvenient life

FRANK PAVONE: Terri Schiavo’s inconvenient life – Washington Times.

Another aspect of the Terri Schiavo tragedy is that many people misunderstand its cause and, therefore, its solution. They think the problem was that Terri did not leave any written instructions about whether she wanted to be kept alive. In order to avoid any such problem in their own lives, they are now told that they have to draw up a “living will.” This is both erroneous and dangerous.

Terri’s case is not about the withdrawal of life-saving medical treatment, but rather about the killing of a healthy person whose life some regarded as worthless. Terri was not dying, was not on life support, and did not have any terminal illness. Because some thought she would not want to live with her disability, they insisted on introducing the cause of death, namely, dehydration.

The danger in our culture is not that we will be overtreated, but rather that we will be undertreated. We already have the right to refuse medical treatment. However, we run the risk of losing the right to receive the most basic humane care — like food and water — in the event we have a disability and become inconvenient.

Oregon Proposed Bill Would Expand Euthanasia Law

HB-3337 would re-define “terminal illness” from being given six months to live increased to one year.  Proposed by Oregon Rep. Mitch Greenlick (D-OR).

Oregon Assisted Suicides are Out of Control, Now the Legislature Wants More People to Die
Gayle Atteberry.  Life News.  March 2, 2015.

Rep. Mitch Greenlick, Chair of the House Committee on Health Care, has introduced a bill, H.B. 3337, which would expand Oregon’s physician-assisted suicide law.

Currently the law requires a patient be diagnosed with a terminal illness and expected to die within six months before being able to request a lethal prescription. This bill redefines “terminal diagnosis” and expands the time requirement to one year.

Oregon was the first state to legalize physician assisted suicide and is touted as a model law to other states. However, the assisted suicide law is rife with dangers and flaws.

Oregon’s law requires patients who are thought to be depressed have a psychiatric exam, but only three percent in 2014 were actually seen by a psychiatrist. This low percentage has remained consistent through the years despite the fact that an Oregon study showed that 26% of patients seeking physician-assisted suicide are depressed. Depression is the number one factor in people seeking to kill themselves. Clearly Oregon’s law is failing to protect patients who could be treated for clinical depression and possibly miss many treasured times with family and friend.

California Lawmakers Pressure Catholic Church

Cal-Catholic.  Feb. 18, 2015.
Eight state lawmakers on Tuesday urged San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone to withdraw the “morality clauses” he unveiled this month in a handbook for high school teachers, and to reverse his intention to redefine teachers as “ministers” in their employment contracts.

The letter to Cordileone from five members of the Assembly and three state senators said the new conditions for employment at four high schools run by the archdiocese “conflict with settled areas of law and foment a discriminatory environment in the communities we serve.”

….Though the letter from lawmakers acknowledges that the archdiocese “wields discretion over working conditions” at the schools, it says his proposal strikes “a divisive tone, which stands in stark contrast to the values that define the Bay Area and its history.” In an email, Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), a signatory to the letter, said: “Injustice must be confronted, no matter the source. Our society is based on the principle that we are all created equally. Any novel legal maneuvers to impose injustice must be stopped.”

The other signatories are Assemblymen Richard Gordon, David Chiu, Marc Levine and Kevin Mullin; and Sens. Mark Leno and Jerry Hill.

This story comes from a Feb. 17 posting in the L.A. Times.
Though the Times story says three state senators signed the letter, it only named two.

  • Unlike California, New Jersey accommodates brain-dead patients who belong to a religion that does not accept the diagnosis of “brain death” as a final verdict for death.

Tainted Measles Vaccine: What Most People Don’t Know

“The problems with the measles vaccine” – By Jay Carpenter, M.D.  Cal-Catholic blog.

‘There is an ethical concern about the measles vaccine issue that I do not believe the American public is aware: a component of the current MMR vaccine is derived from an aborted fetal cell line. As such, there is a large group of Americans who will not avail themselves of this “tainted” therapy.  The unfortunate truth is that there are ethical, morally acceptable alternative vaccines that are simply not made available to Americans.’

Prior to 2009, Merck, the manufacturer of the MMR vaccine used in the U.S. and in many other countries, made available individually separate vaccines for mumps and measles that were derived from the ethically acceptable sources as described.  In 2009, they stopped making these vaccines available, despite reassurances to the contrary.  Since then, Merck has refused to license these vaccines to other companies who were interested in making them available to the public.  It has been since 2009 that the incidence of measles in this country has risen, so it is not inconceivable that legitimate ethical concerns have been at least one factor for the decline in the rate of measles vaccination.

‘Death with Dignity’: A strong dose of skepticism about physician-assisted suicide – LA Times.

  • As someone who supports all those other liberal causes, yet opposes physician-assisted suicide, I’d ask my fellow progressives to shine a cold hard light on this issue. We have been the target of a decades-long branding campaign that paints hastening death as an extension of personal freedoms. We should bring the same skepticism to physician-assisted suicide that we do to fracking and genetically modified food.
  • “The phrase “right to die” is brilliant branding. You will not, however, find any such right within the U.N.’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights or U.S. Constitution. Americans have a constitutional right to refuse life-prolonging treatments. But there’s a big difference between being allowed to die of your disease and having a doctor intentionally end your life.”
  • In the 1990s, proponents in Oregon campaigned to legalize physician-assisted suicide in cases of unrelievable physical suffering. Oregon Health Authority research, however, shows that more than 75% of those who took that option didn’t cite pain as a concern. Their issues were emotional or existential: feeling a burden to family, loss of autonomy or inability to do things they enjoy.

Pope Francis: Abortion, Euthanasia are ‘Sins Against God’

Pope Francis blasts abortion, euthanasia as ‘sins against God’ :: Catholic News Agency (CNA).

.- Pope Francis has told a group of Catholic doctors that “playing with life” in ways like abortion and euthanasia is sinful, and he stressed that each human life, no matter the condition, is sacred.

“We’re are living in a time of experimentation with life. But a bad experiment… (we’re) playing with life,” the Pope told an audience of 4,000 Catholic doctors gathered in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall on Nov. 15.

“Be careful, because this is a sin against the Creator: against God the Creator.”

Pope Francis offered his words in an address given to members of the Italian Catholic Doctors Association in celebration of their 70th anniversary.

He recalled that many times in his years as a priest he heard people object to the Church’s position on life issues, specifically asking why the Church is against abortion.

After explaining to the inquirer that the Church is not against abortion because it is simply a religious or philosophical issue, he said it’s also because abortion “is a scientific problem, because there is a human life and it’s not lawful to take a human life to solve a problem.”

Regardless of the many objections he has heard saying that modern thought has evolved on the issue, the Pope stressed that “in ancient thought and in modern thought, the word ‘kill’ means the same!”

“(And) the same goes for euthanasia,” he explained, observing that as a result of “this culture of waste, a hidden euthanasia is practiced on the elderly.”

This, he said, is like telling God: “’at the end of life I do it, like I want.’ It’s a sin against God. Think well about this.”

The belief that abortion is helpful for women, that euthanasia is “an act of dignity,” or that it’s “a scientific breakthrough to ‘produce’ a child (who is) considered a right instead of accepted as a gift” are all part of conventional wisdom that offers a false sense of compassion, he said.

And this includes “(the) use of human life as laboratory mice supposedly to save others,” the Pope continued, saying that on the contrary, the Gospel provides a true image of compassion in the figure of the Good Samaritan, who sees a man suffering, has mercy on him, goes close and offers concrete help.

With today’s rapid scientific and technological advancements the possibility of physical healing has drastically increased, the Pope observed. However, the ability to truly care for the person has almost gone in the opposite direction.

Some aspects of medical science “seem to diminish the ability to ‘take care’ of the person, especially when they are suffering, fragile and defenseless,” he said, explaining that advancements in science and medicine can only enhance human life if they maintain their ethical roots.

“Attention to human life, particularly to those in the greatest difficulty, that is, the sick, the elderly, children, deeply affects the mission of the Church,” the Bishop of Rome continued, saying that often times modern society tends to attach one’s quality of life to economic possibilities.

Frequently the quality of a person’s life is measured by their physical beauty and well-being, he observed, noting how the more important interpersonal, spiritual and religious dimensions of human life are often forgotten.

“In reality, in the light of faith and of right reason, human life is always sacred and always ‘of quality’,” he said.

“No human life exists that is more sacred that the other, just like there is no human life qualitatively more significant than another solely in virtue of resources, rights, economic opportunities and higher social status.”

Pope Francis told the group that as Catholic doctors, it is their mission to affirm the sacredness and inviolability of human life, which “must be loved, defended and cared for,” through word and example, each in their own personal style.

He encouraged them to collaborate with others, including those with different religions, in seeking to promote the dignity of the human being as a basic criterion of their work, and to follow the Gospel’s instruction to love at all times, especially when there is a special need.

“Your mission as doctors puts you in daily contact with so many forms of suffering,” he said, and he encouraged them to imitate the Good Samaritan in caring for the elderly, the sick and the disabled.

By remaining faithful to the Gospel of Life and respecting life as a gift, difficult decisions will come up that at times require courageous choices that go against the popular current, the pontiff noted, saying that this faithfulness can also lead “to conscientious objection.”

“This is what the members of your association have done in the course of 70 years of meritorious work,” the Pope observed, urging the doctors to continue implementing the teachings of the Magisterium into their work with trust and humility.

Message To Senator Lois Wolk: SB-128 End Of Life Option Act

Dear Senator Wolk,

Why do you want doctors to become common murderers? I don’t understand how you can make this sweeping change to every physician’s sworn duty to do no harm but to heal and care for.   The bill will change every physician’s image in the minds of citizens as common killers. Compassion & Choices changed their name from the Hemlock Society so they could twist the arms of people like you. As a senior on Medicare, I can no longer trust a doctor to give me or my family the care we want.

As for Brittany Maynard’s brain tumor, there have been others who survived and lived to tell about it.

What you are proposing is an intrinsic evil. Shame on you! We will fight you.

Life Doesn’t End In Coma for Man With Neisseria Meningitis

BIOETHICS.  January 14, 2014.  By Harold Cassidy.

“Teach Your Children:  Assisted Suicide and My Family.”

No one wants pain. But the debate about assisted suicide is not just about those who are terminally ill and in pain. It is about all of us. By voting for assisted suicide, we are implicated in an intrinsically immoral act.

While in the coma, Rich’s heart had to endure six weeks of fever that reached 107 degrees—six weeks during which he had to be packed in ice. For six months, the physicians continually repeated that Rich’s death was imminent. On one occasion, when I visited the comatose Rich, his face had necrosed. It was entirely black. For six months, Rich Fritzky did not move, did not breath, did not swallow, and did not speak.

But Rich came out of his coma. He awoke to find that both of his legs had been amputated, as well as all ten of his fingers. His hospitalization lasted fifteen months and included a vigorous and painful rehabilitation, a failed effort to fit prosthesis, continual bouts with infections, and difficult-to-manage bed sores. Although the illness left his body broken and scarred, his mind and wits were as keen as ever, and he loved his family more than ever before.

California Nurses for Ethical Standards Against PAS

PAS = Physician Assisted Suicide

California Needs Law for Death with Dignity in California.  Published in the Orange County Register, October 14, 2014.

Excerpt: ” I often have thought that our society treats pets with far more compassion than it does human beings, allowing animals to be put out of their suffering.”  Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the UC Irvine School of Law.

Rebuttal (unpublished as of 10/29/14)

Dear Editor,
Mr. Chemerinsky’s myopic, emotional call for physician-assisted-suicide (PAS) (Erwin Chemerinsky:California Needs a Death With Dignity Law, O.C.Register, Oct 15) is frightening to the majority of health care professionals. The idea of turning healers into killers violates the fundamental guiding principle of medicine: “first do no harm.” Why does a person need a doctor’s help to commit a person’s suicide?

In addition, where euthanasia and PAS have been legalized, abuses abound. Mr. Chemerinsky says states can and should regulate “death with dignity” to prevent abuses. As reasonable as this sounds, it has been noted in states and countries where this is the law, there are no safe-guards strong enough to protect patients, and no way to control assisted suicide once it becomes legal. For example the Netherlands had strict guidelines in place when they first legalized PAS, but it soon evolved into voluntary euthanasia, then into non-voluntary euthanasia. Positive reports about how well Oregon’s legalization of PAS is working, fall apart when the true realities were revealed by ethical doctors practicing in Oregon.

No, Dean Chemerinsky, we don’t need or want PAS in California.

Assisted Suicide Advocates Lie About 2014 California Poll Results

Today we examine polling data conducted for The Hemlock Society, dba Compassion and Choices

POLL No. 1 – Goodwin Simon polled 500 Californians by telephone.  {Population of California = 38.33 Million.}

The Hemlock Society, dba Compassion & Choices, is bragging that 64% of polled Californians would support “aid in dying”.  The poll was conducted in October 2014.

Here is a California ballot measure that may be on the ballot in an upcoming election. Here is how it might read:

The Death with Dignity Act would give a terminally ill person, who is mentally competent, the right to request and receive a prescription for life-ending medication from a physician.

If the election were held today, would you vote to favor or to oppose this ballot measure?

Strongly Favor 36%, Somewhat Favor 26%, Lean Favor 2% = 64%

  • C&C deliberately included “Somewhat Favor” and “Lean Favor” in their TOTAL FAVOR result of 64%.

Satan is the Prince of Lies.

POLL No. 2 – Harris Polls, online polling of 2,272 adults in the U.S. Nov. 12 and 26.

“How much do you agree with the following statement?  Individuals who are terminally ill, in great pain and who have no chance for recovery, have the right to choose to end their own life.”

Very Much Agree 54%, Somewhat Agree 20% = Total Agree 74%

  • Once again, C&C added together “Very Much Agree” with “Somewhat Agree.”
  • Pain can be controlled.

California Bill to Legalize Assisted Suicide in 2015

Note:  This bill has NOT been “introduced” as stated in the article title.–West Coast Pro-Life

California Legislator Introduces Bill to Legalize Assisted Suicide After Prior Bills Fail |

California ProLife Council, [CPLC] working in conjunction with a coalition of life-affirming groups, has defeated California Assisted Suicide proposals in the past.  But euthanasia advocates have promised to be particularly aggressive this coming year.

State Sen. Bill Monning intends to introduce legislation that would allow terminally ill Californians to end their lives with medical assistance.

Monning, D-Carmel, announced his plan for a bill modeled on Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act on Friday during an annual legislative meeting with Watsonville officials.

Monning said he and Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, still are working on the legislation, but that it would authorize mentally competent people with terminal diagnoses and fewer than six months to live to legally end their lives.

Better known as assisted suicide, advocates prefer the term “aid in dying” to describe the practice of a terminally ill patient choosing to end their life using a lethal dose of a prescribed drug.

In California, several attempts to pass a law either at the ballot box or through the Legislature have failed, the last in 2007.

Brian Johnston, Executive Director of CPLC,  has been deeply involved in combating each of the previous proposals. He says, “You must remember that this is not about helping comfort or alleviate pain for an ill or dying person, that’s what Mother Teresa did. This is about killing that patient instead.”

Johnston, who has been a California Commissioner on Aging and hospice volunteer, wants all pro-life individuals prepared for the onslaught of propaganda for “compassionate killing.” His documentary and book, Death as a Salesman, is recognized as one of the definitive handbooks in the battle against assisted suicide.

Methodist Minister: Legalize Assisted Suicide because “The Lord Does Not Want Us To Suffer”

BAKERSFIELD, CA.  December 26, 2014 – “Compassion & Choices has launched a dynamic campaign in California to make aid in dying an open, available, legitimate practice in the Golden State.  A number of legislators have expressed support for such a bill, and we are currently crafting the language for legislation that will be introduced in January.

“In July, 64 percent of Californians said they supported aid in dying, according to a poll by Goodwin Simon Strategic Research. But that poll was conducted before Brittany’s story galvanized nationwide support for death with dignity, so it likely underestimates demand for this choice in the state.  In fact, a recent online HealthDay/Harris Poll survey shows an overwhelming 74 percent of American adults now believe that terminally ill patients who are in great pain should have the right to end their lives. Only 14 percent were opposed.  [ The poll did not mention “suicide.”-editor]

We are working to pass resolutions supporting end-of-life options and to deprioritize prosecutions of physicians who practice aid in dying in cities and counties across the state. We are building alliances with other organizations and partnerships with key state leaders. We invite you to join us in asking candidates and elected representatives to support aid in dying in the Golden State.

“Death should be a time of peace, not a time of stress because no one bothered to have a conversation about their own or their loved ones’ end-of-life wishes. Let’s make the most of our family gatherings. Let’s start end-of-life conversations with our parents and our abuelitos [grandparents] to learn about the kind of medical care they would or would not want at the end of their lives.

“As a family of God, we are called to act with compassion and goodwill to help make aid in dying an open and accessible medical practice in California. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, very patient and full of faithful love.

The Catholic 4-Way Medal an Answer to End-of-Life Decisions

iom_logo             ” Dying in America “
We attended the Webinar this month by that title, hosted by the Institute of Medicine (IOM).  Their study of dying Americans, “DYING in AMERICA,” is not about excellence in medicine.  Rather, it’s an ongoing process to fundamentally change health treatment policies, especially for seniors.
The creeps in health policy are planning to put us Boomers in hospice and withdraw basic medical care like fluids.  There is even talk that health policy makers will attempt to discourage the use of “911” Emergency calls, made by patients for re-admittance!  See our list of “End-of-Life Health Policy Makers” category listed on this website, right margin.
StemmaPapaFrancesco_18-03-2013 The Vatican endorses basic care at end of life like feeding and fluids.  However, non-Catholic health policy makers define feeding and fluids to be “medical treatment.”
Read this horror of a “health care” statement on Artificial Nutrition and Hydration [ANH] by the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine!
AAHPM recognizes that in some faith traditions ANH is considered basic sustenance, and for some patients and families, ANH is of symbolic importance, apart from any measurable benefits for the patient’s physical well-being. Such views should be explored, understood, and respected, in keeping with patient and family values, beliefs, and culture. Good communication is necessary to allow caregivers to learn about patient and family fears about “starvation” and other frequently expressed concerns. At the same time, communication is essential to explain the patient’s clinical condition and that the inability to eat and drink can be a natural part of dying that is generally not associated with suffering. Judicious hand feeding and, in some situations, particularly if there is uncertainty about whether a patient will benefit from ANH, a time-limited trial of ANH may be useful. When a time-limited trial of ANH is pursued, clear, measurable end points should be determined at the beginning of the trial. The caregiving team should explain that, as with other medical therapies, ANH can be withdrawn if it is not achieving its desired purpose.  End excerpt…click link above for full statement.

HOWEVER…At this writing, the American leaders in the Catholic Church are not fully informed of the dangers of POLST, organ donations, and Living Wills.  There is no uniform direction from the Church.  In fact, a Catholic priest, Fr. John Tuohey, is behind the creation of POLST.  Fr. Tuohey is director of Ethics at Providence Hospital in Portland OR.  So, here’s a Catholic priest who endorses this dangerous document.

Here at West Coast Pro-Life we are doing whatever we can to inform the laity:  you do not need to hire a lawyer to draft your POWER OF ATTORNEY to accompany your completed your ADVANCED HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVE form for your state.

Another alternative is to obtain a PROTECTIVE MEDICAL DIRECTIVES DOCUMENT – PMDD.  Click that link and read about this document available from the Patients Rights Council located in Steubenville, OH and directed by Rita Marker, J.D., a leader in the anti-euthanasia movement.

Review our page titled “Catholic End-Of-Life Resources” which help explain the differing views among Catholics leadership regarding POLST and brain death defined to procure organs.

California Democrat Platform: The Party of Death with Dignity

2014 California Democrat Party Platform

To ensure death with dignity, we support the right of any competent adult, suffering intractable pain as a consequence of a fatal illness to obtain the assistance of medical doctors in painlessly ending her or his own life.  We support safeguards to ensure that this right of patient self-determination will not be misused by either family members or health care personnel, to precipitate the demise of any disabled person who desires to continue living.

We support reimbursement to doctors, including Medicare doctors and other healing professionals, who may utilize holistic treatment modalities when administering pain management protocols, including reimbursement when patients request voluntary consultation about end-of-life care.

Right to Abortion and Right-To-Die Movements Attract Same Ideologues

Ideologues from 1960’s counter culture — homosexuals, feminists, drug cultists, hippy or Communist preachers — are gathering once again.  This time they are attempting to impose their views about dying.  They are obsessive about slogans:  “a perfect death,” “death with dignity,” etc.

Example of his views on death:   “The Tibetan Book of the Dead was used by Tibetan Buddhist lamas to read to fellow lamas as they were dying, and for forty-nine days after their death.  Tim Leary, Ralph Metzner, and I began to see the Book in metaphorical terms as the story of psychological death and rebirth, even though it was originally intended as a guide through the process of physical death and rebirth. I now think that the idea of dying and being born into truth, or wisdom, or spirit is really what our business is when we talk about death. When you extricate yourself from the solid identification with your body, you begin to have the spaciousness to allow for the possibility that death is a part of the process of life – rather than the end of life. I feel this very deeply.”  Taken from “Dying is Absolutely Safe.”

Compassion & Choices Cocktails and Conversation

Mickey MacIntyre, Compassion & Choices’ CPO, tells about the organization’s aggressive push to have active Death with Dignity Campaigns in 20 states by the year 2020.

Cocktails and Conversation on Expanding End-of-Life Choice at Beaulieu with hosts Ruth Buchanan and Bonnie Matheson

The Newport season saw its second event at Beaulieu — the summer home of Washington, D.C., doyenne Ruth Buchanan — this time sans orchestra and dancing. An intimate coterie of friends and family gathered on her 50′ wide slate porch overlooking the cliff walk and Atlantic for the cocktail hour to learn more about the work of leading national nonprofit Compassion & Choices. Its mission for the past 32 years has been to expand choice and improve care at the end of life. That includes making death with dignity — the medical practice of aid in dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults — a legitimate, open and accessible option. Currently, this option is expressly legal in five states, and Compassion & Choices is running campaigns to establish this basic human right in six others with a goal of 20 by the year 2020.

Ruth told her guests: “I watched both of my late husbands have terribly painful and drawn-out deaths because they didn’t plan ahead [by naming resolute healthcare proxies and completing comprehensive advance directives]. They hadn’t spoken to their families about their own deeply held end-of-life values and shared what truly living meant to them. I hope each of you — including my own children and grandchildren — gathered here will not make the same mistakes. Life for me is more than just existing, and I don’t want to be here if I can’t truly enjoy all of it — especially dancing!”

Ruth, still “tripping the light fantastic” well into her 90s, has been supporting the death-with-dignity movement since 1996, when late husband was in serious decline. She sought out and received sound advice from Compassion & Choices end-of-life consultants. This spring, she was initially approached with a request to meet with the organization’s Washington, D.C.-based staff to discuss the possibility of hosting an event in Newport.  With her signature wit, a rye smile and a gimlet eye, from across the room she jokingly quipped, “Tell them, “I’m not ready for them yet!”

However, despite two other events on her dance card that day, she held court with a drink in hand while admonishing her guests to “live life and get as much enjoyment out of it as you can. Make absolutely sure your family – especially your children – knows what you want when that’s no longer happening. Compassion & Choices is here to help us. Please join me in supporting them.”

Ronald Fleming, his guest Phoebe visiting for the season from England – and Leilani Brenner discuss the lively debate currently in process in the House of Lords on an “Assisted Dying” bill modeled after the Oregon Death With Dignity Act.  Phoebe shared that Lord Carey, the recently retired Archbishop of Canterbury, and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu both support the assisted-dying legislation.

Portland Archbishop Sample: Physician-assisted suicide and Brittany Maynard

Compassion and Choices are predatory!  They are exploiting this young woman to push their twisted beliefs about life and death.

Physician-assisted suicide ‘sows confusion about the purpose of life and death,’ archbishop says |

Note that the archbishop did not use the trendy term “death with dignity.”  I like that.

Archbishop Sample’s Full Statement:

Death can be a frightening prospect. Coupled with suffering, it can be even more frightening. What is the proper human response in the face of death? How can we find meaning in an earthly existence that ends in death?
Assisted suicide offers the illusion that we can control death by putting it on our own terms. It suggests that there is freedom in being able to choose death, but it fails to recognize the contradiction. Killing oneself eliminates the freedom enjoyed in earthly life. True autonomy and true freedom come only when we accept death as a force beyond our control. Our lives and our deaths belong in the hands of God who created and sustains us. Through the suffering, death and Resurrection of His Son, Jesus, we know that death is not the final word. Eternal life awaits all those who entrust themselves to God.
Life is a gift from God, and we have only one opportunity to live the life we have been given. Every moment of life is precious, and every moment of life worth living.
Assisted suicide sows confusion about the purpose of life and death. It suggests that a life can lose its purpose and that death has no meaning. Cutting life short is not the answer to death. Instead of hastening death, we encourage all to embrace the sometimes difficult but precious moments at the end of life, for it is often in these moments that we come to understand what is most important about life. Our final days help us to prepare for our eternal destiny.
We stand in solidarity with all those who are suffering and dying, and all those who are struggling to find meaning in life. Don’t give up hope! We are with you. As friends, families and neighbors we pledge to surround you with our love and compassion until the sacred moment when God calls you home. And together with you, we look forward to that day when God will wipe away every tear from our eyes and there will be no more mourning, no more suffering, and no more death (Rev. 21:4).
May the peace of Christ be with you all.

Aggressive Publicity for Medical Suicide by Hemlock Society – Brittany Maynard

From the “Wish We Had A Movie Star Spokesperson” department…

Dear Readers,

A young patient with brain cancer moved from California to Oregon to take advantage of the state’s PAS law (physician assisted suicide).

Hemlock Society Logo
Hemlock Society Logo
Hemlock Society Logo

After gathering information I conclude that this is an aggressive ad campaign by the Hemlock Society, aka Compassion & Choices. So far I have seen their slick video ON THE NEWS twice, yesterday and today.  As the video plays one can see clearly the C&C logo.

The Sacramento local news is asking for viewer opinions!

A brief Internet search indicates C&C’s top notch PUBLIC RELATIONS dept. — headed by former Planned Parenthood public policy director — is on a roll.

The story has made a media feeding frenzy:  New York Times, People Magazine, CNN, and local news.

In fact, the C&C website has gotten so many hits it keeps crashing.

The poor suffering cancer patient is now the namesake of an unethical campaign, THE BRITTANY MAYNARD FUND, “an initiative of C&C to expand the death-with-dignity option to all.

During the last days of her life, Maynard plans to raise awareness of end-of-life rights by working with life-rights advocacy organization Compassion & Choices and The Brittany Maynard Fund.  Fox News.

There are questions that need answering:  Where are photos of her as a sick person?  All the photos shows a healthy woman.  Is she really sick?  Are we expected to just take this on face value?
