Planned Parenthood Sets Record for Number of Babies Killed

Washington, DC (23 February 2011) – Planned Parenthood Federation of America recently posted on its web site its so-called service numbers for 2009. This document, dated February 2011, shows that Planned Parenthood committed 332,278 surgical and medical abortions in 2009—more than in any previous year.

The document also shows that Planned Parenthood provided prenatal services to merely 7,021 women and referred 977 for adoption services. These numbers were a 25 percent drop in prenatal care clients and a whopping 59 percent decline in adoption referrals.

“Despite its protestations that abortion is only a small part of its services,” said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League, “Planned Parenthood has increased its number of abortions for 15 straight years. During that time, it has gone from committing 9.3 percent of all abortions in the United States to committing 27.5 percent.”

Sedlak also noted that Planned Parenthood now does 340 abortions for every one adoption referral and 47 abortions for every one prenatal care client.

“The records show that Planned Parenthood has committed 5,320,095 surgical and medical abortions from 1970 through the end of 2009,” Sedlak continued.

“We estimate that the income from abortion accounts for 40 percent of its annual clinic income.”

In the last year it has been revealed by Abby Johnson, former PP clinic director in Bryan, Texas, that Planned Parenthood was pressuring her to do more and more abortions because PP makes more money from abortions than any other single service. It was also revealed by Planned Parenthood’s affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas, that the national office is demanding that every affiliate must have at least one facility that commits abortion.

“When all the current numbers are taken together with the revelations from PP’s own former employees,” Sedlak concluded, “it is clear that Planned Parenthood is about killing human beings in the womb for a profit. It is an absolute outrage that American taxpayers have been funding such a group and we ask all members of Congress to take steps now to end this funding.”

Former Abortionist Dr. Nathanson Passes

Dr. Bernard Nathanson remembered for his profound pro-life conversion :: Catholic News Agency

February 23, 2011

excerpt

Although critics of Nathanson’s conversion were  perplexed as to how a former atheist Jew became of the the most prominent Catholic pro-life advocates, Fr. McCloskey – who has aided in numerous conversions – said he wasn’t surprised.

“My experience in dealing with Jewish people whom I love dearly is that, the great majority of them, if they want to become Christian, they become Catholic.”

Fr. McCloskey added: “I think his conversion from atheism to Catholicism will be seen as a real turning point in our history.”

Slaughterhouse Live: Abortionist Gosnell

Slaughterhouse Live | Population Research Institute.

By Steven Mosher

excerpt:

How did Gosnell get away with such horrors for decades on end? The grand jury states that several Pennsylvania agencies share the blame.

First, the State Health Department stopped inspecting abortion facilities 15 years ago following the election of Governor Tom Ridge. As Brad Mattes has noted, “The politics of a pro-abortion governor put an end to inspections. Abortion mills got a free pass.”

Even a cursory inspection would have revealed that Gosnell’s own patient records contained enough evidence to convict him of performing illegal late-term abortions. But nobody bothered to check.

Second, the Department of State ignored dozens of complaints from women, relatives, and former employees about Gosnell’s behavior. The department could not bring itself to take action even when a whistle blower—a former employee of Gosnell—came to it and “laid out the whole scope of his operation.”

Gosnell should have been stripped of his license to practice medicine years ago. Instead he was allowed to continue to kill babies and mutilate women.

Third, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health failed to enforce its own regulations. The department knew that he was in violation of local health regulations. They knew that he had no medical waste plan. They could hardly not have known, since one of Gosnell’s own employees complained to them that aborted babies were being stored in the same refrigerator that employees used to store their lunches.

They could have shut down Gosnell’s mill for any one of a number of violations. Instead they turned a blind eye.

Fourth, the local hospitals did not report—as legally required—the large number of complications that followed from Gosnell’s botched abortions. Local emergency room personnel had seen it all: patients with torn uteruses and perforated intestines; patients overdosed on pain medication; patients with baby body parts still inside of them.

But they protected Gosnell—and thus failed to protect his patients.

The grand jury report also faults the National Abortion Federation (NAF), whose representative described the small brick building on the corner of 38th and Lancaster in Pennsylvania as the worst facility she had ever seen. Yet she did nothing and told no one, confirming the suspicions of pro-lifers that the abortion industry is incapable of policing itself. To put it bluntly, if you are willing to kill babies for profit, what won’t you do?

Vital Organ Donors May Receive Tax Credit in Oregon

PRESS RELEASE

Contact:  Nina Rhea, Director, Pro-Life Action of Oregon

nina@prolifeactionoforegon.org

February 4, 2011 (Portland, Ore) The Oregon legislature is considering passage of a bill which would provide tax credits to living donors of vital organs such as a kidney or partial liver. Living donors would be rewarded with a maximum $1,000 tax credit. The bill has been referred to the Revenue Committee.

H.B. 2842 “Tax Credits for Organ Transplants”

[http://www.leg.state.or.us/11reg/measures/hb2800.dir/hb2842.intro.html] is sponsored by Rep. Dave Hunt, the Democratic Leader of Oregon’s house. He was unwilling to make a comment for this story.

The implied purpose of the bill is to increase organ supply for transplant programs.

The most aggressive marketing outreach for procurement of organs is done by Donate Life Northwest, formerly known as the Organ Donor Program. DLN exists to spread organ transplant propaganda in our community, including schools.

According to DLN’s executive director, Mary Jane Hunt, DLN educates school children “so they will become future generations of donors.” DLN was founded by a large network of transplantation advocates known as the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

DLN’s cheerful glossy propaganda pamphlets are in every Department of Motor Vehicles to entice young drivers to donate their organs. When asked whether donors are provided information to consent to organ donating, Mrs. Hunt replied that “it’s not the role of the DMV to educate; it’s presumed they’ve been informed on their own or in the schools.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the leading cause of death among teenagers from 16 to 19 years of age is traffic accidents. The DMV is a willing accomplice in organ procurement.

Nina Rhea, director of Pro-Life Action of Oregon comments:

“No one is paying attention to the not-so-subtle predatory nature of the marketing to teenagers and young adults to put on their driver’s license the letter ‘D’ for organ donor. The time has come for pro-life advocates to sit up and take notice. The coalition of organ donor programs, though legal, look suspiciously cannibalistic.

“So, now comes this bill in Oregon, the state with a poor record on child protection and abortion clinic regulation. Known as the first state with the horrific Physician’s Assisted Suicide law, Oregon may now become the first state with an equally horrific monetary incentive to increase organ supply.

“If this bill passes, the vulnerable unemployed, poor, disabled, and homeless may be easy prey. Is Oregon a state without shame?

“The risks to living donors is bleak: weakness or death. The National Institutes of Health [http://www.nih-livingdonor.org/] is in the process of conducting a study ‘to collect information on the outcomes of living donors over time. There are some scientific questions regarding the effects of stress on the remaining organ. There could be subtle medical problems that do not develop until decades after the living donation that are not known at this time because living donation is a relatively new medical procedure.’”

“Every time an organ is donated, the living person becomes weaker or dies,” warns Dr. Paul A. Byrne, a bioethicist and practicing neonatologist in Ohio. “For example, it has been reported that a healthy man donated part of his liver to his brother and he died in the process [http://www.foxnews.com/health/2010/08/16/man-dies-donating-liver-brother-1560945836/] . It was said that it was unusual but they looked around and found that five other persons had died this way.” The hospital where the man died suspended its liver transplant operations.

When asked whether Oregon’s proposed bill, if passed, will ultimately lead to buying and selling vital organs outright, Dr. Byrne replied, “Of course it does. However, under the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act, a tax credit may not be legal. It puts dollars and cents onto your organs. The UAGA makes it illegal to sell organs.

Dr. Byrne believes very strongly that the UAGA is a terrible law. “Prior to this law, a person who consented to donate their organs had to be ‘of sound mind.’ The UAGA removed ‘of sound mind.’”

“In organ transplantation, the donor is always living, the heart is always beating,” said Dr. Byrne. “A donor must always have circulation. The criteria used for transplantation is ‘brain death’ which is not real death.”

He described the Utilitarian business of vital organ procurement, in which vital organs are referred to as “body parts,” as a contributor to the Culture of Death.

“It’s like the human being is a machine,” he continued. “We’re not machines. We’re made in the image and likeness of God. Our life is a gift.”
